It was only intended to be a temporary situation when Katie Snyder left her dog Leia to live with her father in April.
Leia enjoys having Snyder’s parents all to herself, free of her two canine brothers. But you wouldn’t know it based on her actions.
Snyder told The Dodo, “Leia isn’t your standard cuddling dog.” “She’s self-sufficient and laid-back.”
“In her own way, Leia loves all of her people,” she continued. “Whether it’s lying next to you during movie night or waiting outside the bathroom door for you to finish,” she says.
Snyder could see Leia was having a good time, but she had no idea how close the dog had gotten to her father until their connection was tested.
Snyder’s parents were out celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary when her father suffered from cancer-related problems. Due to COVID-19, he had to spend the night at the hospital, and Snyder’s mother was unable to accompany him.
Snyder’s mother arrived home alone, and it was obvious she wasn’t the only one upset. Leia waited at the front entrance, her head down, quietly waiting for her father to return.
Snyder’s mother took a photo of the devastated dog and sent it to her daughter, saying, “I instantly burst into tears when she showed me that image.” Snyder stated, “It just destroyed me.” “I could tell how much [Leia] loved my father and how much she missed him.”
Snyder and Leia were overjoyed to see one other when Snyder’s father arrived home the next day.
Snyder is making Leia’s living arrangement permanent after observing how much her father’s absence hurt her dog.
