Spencer is an 8-year-old therapy dog that is not only a certified good boy but also a fantastic cheerleader.
Rich Powers, the golden retriever, and his son go wherever they’re needed the most. Spencer spreads pleasure by visiting schools, hospitals, and senior facilities, as well as attending the Boston Marathon to cheer on the runners.
During last year’s run, a video showing Spencer sitting on a crate waving two flags with the words “Boston Strong” went viral, garnering over 3 million views on Facebook.
Runners came to a halt to take pictures and ooh and aah over the cute pooch’s uplifting presence. Spencer was even given Powers’ coat to wear throughout the marathon so he could endure the cold and rain in style.
Spencer is back at it again this year. The only difference is that he’s prepared for the weather.
When the skies darkened, Spencer put on his own bright yellow raincoat to remain dry and stand out among the crowd.
The encouraging dog, who was stationed around mile marker two and had two Boston Strong banners in his teeth, appeared quite delighted to cheer on the competitors rain or shine. As racers began the 26.2-mile journey, he was a welcome sight.
