When a kind-looking individual walked by, a little dog was exploring the streets of Sumter County, Florida. Without hesitation, the lost dog approached the guy.
“He almost dived for this man, as if to beg, ‘Help me!’” ‘Please assist me!’ A volunteer at YOUR Humane Society SPCA, Claudia Labbé, told The Dodo. “When he saw him, he was overjoyed.”
The brown Chihuahua was picked up by the Good Samaritan and taken to the shelter. Despite being underweight and flea-infested, the dog retained a cheerful, upbeat demeanor. The employees at the shelter could tell this dog belonged in a home, so they checked him for a microchip.

The dog’s name, Alex, as well as the names of his previous owners, surfaced. When the shelter workers were able to contact Alex’s family, they understood how incredible his tale was.
His owners had not seen their dog in six years and lived in Naples, Florida, over 225 miles away from where Alex was discovered.
Alex was a 2-month-old puppy when he came to live with them. He has two human brothers and Thunder, a bigger dog sibling. However, when Thunder went to live with Grandma for a bit, Alex dug a hole under his yard’s fence and fled, most likely in pursuit of Thunder.

Alex’s family hoped for his safe return and searched for him everywhere. However, as the months passed, their optimism of locating their beloved puppy dwindled. That late-night phone call from YOUR Humane Society SPCA in February transformed their lives forever.
