299 Dogs Found Families At Adoption Event But Not This One

Posted on April 12, 2023 by homeof

King Zeus appeared to be resigned to the notion that he would not find a family when he arrived at the adoption event on October 13.

The 6-year-old pit bull mix had been a resident of the Humane Society of Hamilton County, Indiana, since May, and officials could tell from the start that life on the streets had been difficult for King Zeus.

Scars covered the gray dog’s body and head, and years of sleeping on hard surfaces had left him with pressure sores on both front legs. His teeth were also worn down. Zeus had rarely, if ever, experienced the warmth and tenderness of a true home or a bed.

Despite his troubled background, King Zeus was always in “high spirits” and willing to snuggle, according to Missy Wright, the shelter’s director of marketing. Wright stated, “His eyes can tell you a narrative.” “He stares into your soul, hoping that you’ll be the one to take him home.”

Zeus had been adopted twice in six months, and both times he had been returned. On his adoption website, the Humane Society for Hamilton County noted, “Living with other dogs is simply too challenging for King Zeus.” “However, we know that he got along well with the youngsters with whom he resided and that he adores people above everything else.”

When Zeus returned to the shelter for the second time, he didn’t appear to believe he’d be picked again. The Humane Society for Hamilton County noted, “He sleeps so peacefully in his kennel watching people pass by him.” “He never barks to be noticed. It’s as though he’s given up hope of ever finding a permanent residence.”

Despite the fact that hundreds of people were expected to attend the annual adoption event at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, employees were confident that the sweet kid would not go unnoticed.

While 299 canines were adopted at the adoption event, King Zeus was not one of them by the conclusion of the weekend. In fact, hardly one was even interested in meeting him.

Staffers couldn’t believe Zeus would be returning to his kennel again again.

“He is nice, friendly, and loves children, but no one looked at him,” said Gina Doyle, the shelter’s animal behavior and training manager, on Facebook. “Perhaps it was due to the scars that cover his entire face. Perhaps it was because he was sleeping peacefully in his kennel. I’m not sure why, but I’m certain that we’ll keep trying to find King Zeus the loving home he so urgently desires.”

Zeus is still waiting for the ideal person to select him, and he has a dedicated group of individuals attempting to keep his spirits up until that time arrives.
